Just imagine - an embroidered shirt could have existed at the beginning of our era. However, the fabric is simply not able to be stored for such a long time. That is why you and I can neither touch nor see very old embroidered shirts. But scientists say that they were, based on other sources. For example, in Cherkasy region, archaeologists found silver figurines created in the 6th century AD. These "silver Scythians" were dressed in embroidered shirts. Perhaps historians would doubt the appropriateness of such a comparison. But Herodotus was of the same opinion — he wrote that the Scythians decorated their clothes with embroidery.
So what is it?
That men's or women's embroidered shirts have been "living" in Ukraine for more than 1,400 years. Historians say that if a thing or phenomenon has not disappeared from culture for 100-220 years, then they are objectively valuable and needed by the people. And the most important thing is that during these centuries embroidered clothes for girls and boys, women and men have not been shared anywhere in the country. They continued to be sewn, embroidered and worn. They wore it every day or on holidays. Decorated with various ornaments and colors. Embroidered clothes went through an incredible historical crucible and remained part of the national identity. He was and still is on time.
But what is his secret?
The experts of the online embroidery store "Kram" have several explanations at once:
Smartness. Embroidery makes even the simplest cut interesting and festive. It is appropriate to wear an embroidered shirt to any celebration or event.
Identity. Techniques and patterns differed significantly not only in regions, but also in individual villages. By the ornaments, they recognized their own and others. We now act in almost the same way: if in another country we see a person wearing an embroidered shirt with familiar patterns, we immediately recognize him as a countryman without words.
Protection. Patterns were never just pictures. Ukrainian women, embroidering embroidered dresses for girls, dreamed of beauty, health and happiness in marriage. The boys were wished strength, courage, prosperity. And they "encrypted" these aspirations into rhombuses, dots, oak leaves or flowers.
Convenience. In the olden days, a women's vyshyvanka with a collar had to be such that a woman could calmly bend or squat, run up or do any work. Therefore, clothes were made spacious, long, with an anatomical cut (not just a bag with holes for arms and legs). Modern manufacturers of embroidered clothes are also guided by this tradition.
Therefore, the best thing you can do now is to buy a really good quality embroidery for a girl. It will be her talisman and festive outfit at the same time, and later it will become an inheritance for her daughter or granddaughter. After all, embroidered clothes are always on time and nothing will change that.
